ABOUT FMCG

From the cloves in our toothpastes to the crunch in our chips - we create products that add excitement to people's everyday lives

The FMCG sector is one of the bedrocks of the Hemas Group - a sector whose roots reach back to 1962, when we commenced manufacturing eau-de-colognes. In the ensuing years we have vastly expanded our operations, and boast a wide range of products that rank amongst the best recognised and trusted brands in Sri Lanka. Our core strength lies in our personal care range - consisting of baby products, fragrances, toothpastes and shampoos - a segment in which we hold the number 2 slot in terms of market share. We have more recently entered several new areas including home care, toilet soaps and food products. Our success lies in our in-house development capabilities, and in our strategic acquisitions of companies that display deep domain expertise.

Our Sri Lankan identity is our greatest asset - as we have a thorough understanding of our consumer base. Our products have mass appeal, as we often blend modern technology with traditional know-how - an approach that has led to strong consumer loyalty.

We have two state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities located in Colombo and Kandy. We are also in the process of establishing a research centre that is to be managed by world class scientists and researchers.

Hemas is amongst the Top 3 companies in Sri Lanka for market reach, with links to over 80,000 outlets around the country. We have invested considerably in our distribution and delivery systems. Each of our 160 sales representatives is equipped with handheld computers that are utilised to provide up-to-date and comprehensive information on secondary sales performance.

Our export operations commenced in 1999 with an initial consignment of products to the Maldive Islands. Our products are currently marketed in 12 countries - including New Zealand, Australia, Malaysia, India, the Maldives, Dubai, Jordan, Zambia and the West Indies. Distribution in these countries occurs through several channels ranging from hyper-markets to individually run retail outlets.
